This is a great article Kristi but now you have me worried! My boyfriend wants me back on birth control pills. I did tons of research last year but I could only take the pills (no injections). I kept on forgetting to take the pills so I would take two in one days to make up for the days I missed. I realized that wasn’t healthy so we went back to using condoms. It is insane all the ways having a negative hormone balance can mess with your body!

Dorothy, check out Neem oil. Either you or your boyfriend can use it. My daughter in laws mid wife was that introduced the information to me. As a mid wife she recommends it to her clients.

This is great Kristi. I, about a year ago and much research, stopped my birth control. I was put on them at a young age for irregular monthly stuff, then again after a lost pregnancy. I just never felt, “quite right” physically and after my own research, realized that birth control not only mucks up your hormones, it prevents the body from absorbing essential vitamins and minerals, including B Vitamins, and it throws off the adrenals. I got off of them and am balancing my hormones with natural herbs. I feel more like how a female should feel, and didn’t realize how much harm I was doing my body. I too am not downing anyone for taking synthetic drugs, but for me, it just didn’t work. I think there is some calcium absorbency issue with birth control too but I cannot quite remember. Turning 40 this year, I want to know what my hormones are doing as I move forward in age! Great article.

Thanks Kara…this was a very hard article for me to write. I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes…but wanted to share my journey. I’ll be turning 50 yrs old this week….and will admit I am progressing thru menopause. I’ve heard the horror stories about it and personal other than a few hot flashes (it feels like I just took niacin) and being emotionally sensitive occasionally (please don’t ask my husbands opinion on that). It really hasn’t been so bad. I believe whole hardly that a nutritional diet helps in this area and a glass of wine (just kidding – just a little) makes the difference. It is so wonderful to hear that you chose to get off birth control pills. They are so dangerous for women with so many side effects that they don’t really list. Only researching it yourself can prove that. Have you tried Neem oil?
