My Natural Money Saving Cycle: Skin Care (part 2)
Last month, I showed you how to save money by making a DIY face mask for brighter, healthier looking skin using turmeric and avocado oil. Face masks are usually one of the more expensive products to include in your beauty routine. My turmeric face mask can save you up to $60 a month. This month, I will show you how to save even more money by making your very own facial toner using only 3 ingredients. All you will need for this toner is rose hydrosol (or rose water), witch hazel, and patchouli essential oil (optional). What’s great about these ingredients is that they are extremely versatile in their many uses.
Rose hydrosol stimulates the skin, heightening the blood flow, controls and balances sebum production, making it useful for both dry and oily skin. It can balance and restore the skin’s PH and helps tighten pores. Antibacterial properties fight acne, make a useful treatment of all types of dermatitis, calms stress and anxiety. Rose water also makes a great air freshener or body spray!
Witch hazel helps with acne control by reducing inflammation and decreasing oil. It is known to tighten the skin which can help de-puff or reduce under eye baggage. Tannins in witch hazel extract are known to constrict blood vessels as well as reduce inflammation and swelling and helps in tightening pores. Use anytime your skin feels hot, oily, dirty or you just want that refreshing, clean feeling. It helps to eliminate water loss and improves hydration to the outer layer of skin. Use after showering to seal in moisture. Additional uses for witch hazel are treating razor burns and soothing sunburns. It can ease the pain, itching, redness and scarring associated with eczema and psoriasis.
To make the toner you add ½ cup each rose hydrosol and witch hazel and 6 drops of patchouli essential oil. Shake well before using.
I have used this toner for 2 weeks now and the results have been amazing. Not only do I get the same result as my old toner (La Roche Posay Micellar Water $40), but it costs me $30 for all three ingredients which I purchased at https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/ and they will last me around 7 months! So all in all by using this homemade toner I will save around $200.
