Smile is said to reflect the inner persona of an individual. It is believed that one who smiles like a child has a true heart. What makes a smile look beautiful? Besides those pink rosy lips, it’s the teeth that make that smile look beautiful. It’s true that teeth are meant to chew food and give a structure to the face. But, they play a vital role in the chart of appearance. Yellow teeth will not only spoil your smile but would have a horrible effect on your appearance. Hence taking good care of your teeth is very important.
When it comes to taking care of ourselves, most of us ignore our teeth. Truth is dental hygiene is essential. An ignorance on our part may result in oral diseases like bad breath, gum diseases and in extreme cases oral cancer.
Since our childhood, we are taught about how to take care of our teeth. Remember what our mothers’ used to say,” Brush twice a day,” and ” Go rinse your mouth,” “Let’s go to the dental clinic for a routine check-up,” etc. How many of us still follow these golden rules? 1 Brush your mouth properly
Brushing should not be limited to teeth. Cleaning of tongue, gums and the roof of the mouth is equally important. While brushing another thing that we should keep in mind is using the right technique. While brushing the bristles of the toothbrush should be at the 45-degree angle in respect to gums. Brushing should be done for outer and the inner side of the gum and teeth. Once you are done with the brushing of your teeth, clean the roof of the mouth and the tongue.
For better results, try to brush at least twice a day. Be gentle, while brushing teeth and gums.
Use baking soda for brushing once a week: Brushing with baking soda helps in removing stains from teeth. You can even use salt to brush your teeth.
2 Floss regularly
Our teeth have spaces between them where food particles get stuck. Hence, it is very important to clean these spaces. Your toothbrush won’t be able to reach these spaces. The correct way of cleaning these spaces is by using dental floss. Flossing regularly will keep your teeth healthy.
3 Ensure that your diet is teeth-friendly
What we eat, has a direct impact on our teeth. Most of the people opt for tasty food over healthy food. Believe me, most of these tasty foods are not good for our teeth. Healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, chicken, and cheese keep our teeth and mouth healthy.
4 Limit intake of soda and alcohol
Soda and alcohol contain phosphorus. When taken in limited quantity phosphorus, do not cause any harm to our body. In fact, our body needs phosphorus to remain healthy. However, when taken in excessive quantity, the calcium level in our body starts depleting. Calcium is the main constituent of teeth. As a result, depleting level of calcium have direct effects on our gums and teeth and causes various dental related issues like gum diseases and tooth decay.
5 Avoid Tobacco
Another thing that one should avoid is tobacco. Tobacco is very harmful to our health, and it also causes oral cancer. In case you find any symptoms related to above-mentioned dental issues it is better to visit the dental clinic and get a complete oral check-up.
6 Visit the dentist regularly
To ensure that our teeth and gums are healthy, a regular visit to the dental clinic is essential. There are various teeth related issues which cannot be resolved at our level. Seeking expert advice is the best option.
7 Leave a little fluoride in your mouth before bedtime
Fluoride helps in strengthening of the tooth surface. When you brush your teeth during the night, just spit out the dental paste and leave the residue as it is.
