With rising food intolerance, new fashion diets, and changing lifestyles, the use of digestive enzyme supplements has become misappropriated. We only need these supplements occasionally to empower what our body already does. The idea that our body doesn’t function properly without them is ludicrous. If everything is running smoothly, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats should handle digestion on there without the extra help.
Digestive Enzyme Supplements or Conscious Steps Toward Stress Relief?
The enzymes in our body break food down into macro-nutrients in the mouth, the stomach, and then in the small intestine. If you take supplements for this process, you may feel great, but you don’t want it to lead to dependency. It’s important to make a plan and to take notes along the way. Know what your body is telling you and only take the supplements for as long as you have to. Even still, you may want to avoid the supplement and first inquire into the levels of inflammation your body exhibits. Inflammation is a major factor in the poor digestion of our food.
A big reason we find internal inflammation is from the infamous instigator, stress. Stress causes inflammation of the digestive system, where 95% of serotonin is produced! Stress physically manifests in our digestive system to physically determine our mood. (It’s not all about attitude!) When we are under a great deal of stress, the gut feels it. It gets irritated and dries out. This may show in loose stools, constipation, and/or mucus in the stools.
What Went Wrong Anyway?
Instead of passing the bile to the lymphatic system, the dried out intestines float it back to the liver. Then you end up with an over-worked liver. The bile in the liver thickens and it becomes difficult for the bile to flow to its next pit stop, the “common bile duct”. At this important stop, the bile mixes with digestive enzymes from the pancreas to flow safely to the small intestines. Missing this step is huge. Without a happy, clean, and churning liver, you will feel indigestion, gassy and bloated.
Often we think these symptoms come from dairy products, wheat or fatty foods, but the real reason may be that detoxification and digestion are not performing optimally. Detoxification is critical in a toxic world!
Before you Decide
So first understand what’s happening in your particular instance. You may want to take digestive enzymes for a short period, or consider that you might be stressed. To treat both ailments naturally, try adding beets, cinnamon, and leafy green vegetables to your eating lifestyle. Drink a big glass of water twenty (20) minutes before you eat a meal. Take time to eat your food, and relax when you eat.
