As part of the Going 2 Natural’s Money Saving Cycle, I have decided to do away with all my chemical laden makeup which contributes to the abuse of animals, and start to create facets of my “Vegan Makeup Collection”. Summer is a little more than a week away, and I would like to add some color to my face to give myself a natural bronzed look, because although I live in California, I don’t make it to the beach as much as I would like. Now there are some great products (plant-based) on the market like Dr. Hauschka skin care line which offers a natural translucent bronzing tint, however this runs at about $40 (for 1.0 oz), and unfortunately this is just money I don’t have.
However, there is hope. After doing some research I found a great alternative.
You will need:
1) Unsweetened Cocoa powder (9 oz) ……… $2.95 (Trader Joe’s)
2) Coconut Oil/Olive Oil/Grape seed Oil…… $5-$10 (depending on size, and store)
Total: $8-$13 (a price my boyfriend can part with)
In a small bowl mix Cocoa powder and oil to a liquid consistency. If using coconut oil you can use fractionated oil. If you use virgin coconut oil you will need to melt it, being careful to not get it too hot. Remember this will become a solid again when cooled. So choose your oil based on whether you want a liquid makeup or solid. Then lightly spread onto cheekbones, or wherever you see fit to be bronzed.
This is completely safe and natural, the cocoa has antioxidants which have been reported to block free radicals and UV rays. Making this a natural sunblock also. So you are actually doing something to benefit your skin while look fabulous doing it. For the best results the cocoa contain at least 70% cocoa and of course preferably organic.
