When I first started working here in Irvine, CA, it was really hard for me to find places that are really affordable yet healthy. The closest thing was the Taco Bell across the street; however, I saw very quickly that the chicken tacos were not going to satisfy my appetite or my nutritional needs. One day on a whim, a few coworkers decided to go to a place called Native Foods.
They said that it was completely vegan. With that notion in mind, I thought for sure I was going to be spending at least half of my check on a meal. Luckily, before we entered there was a menu right outside. The prices were not at all what I expected for a fully vegan place. I ordered a Rockin’ Moroccan Bowl. The “chicken” was made out of soybeans. Normally I would think that this “chicken” would be questionable but I was pleasantly surprised how full of spices it was with every bite. This particular bowl came with brown rice, steamed veggies, a chipotle style sauce (but not at all spicy) and drizzled with almond flakes. It was satisfying and filling, without breaking the bank.
