For many years, I have followed a group of families that chose to move to the inner city, Lykins Neighborhood, Kansas City—to be exact. The Urban Farming Guys (UFG) is a nonprofit 501c3 organization with a motto of “Sharing Knowledge…Feeding Nations.” They uprooted their lives to make a change in others lives.
Their living experiment is to cultivate life in one of the most urban neighborhoods in Missouri. Giving people purpose and resources to live a sustainable lifestyle is a goal for these families. This goal, I might add, has been successful—crime rate dropped 21% between 2008 to 2010.
They have changed the lives of people once in the court after-school or struggled with hope for the future. By touching the lives of the youth in the neighborhood, they have taught them the gift being self-reliant. Teaching the community job skills and natural resources have successfully impacted our future generations.
Informative videos for all
The vast amount of knowledge this group of people have is amazing, but most importantly, they are fun and quirky. In their informative videos, you can’t help but want to immediately go out and try to do it yourself. Any level—whether novice or expert—can understand the content.
There are also opportunities for sustainable lifestyles. They offer training courses, internship-to-apprenticeship, and international mission programs.
Additionally, if you are already immersed in sustainable living, you might be interested in their other opportunities offered to help the community. They have created a community garden and an after-school program, with future plans of a mobile farmers market that will make organic farm fresh produce available to other inner-city neighborhoods.
With vast knowledge in a variety of areas, the Urban Farming Guys share this knowledge on their website. They have videos on so many topics from alternative energy to worm farming. You can find these videos categorized for your convenience on their website. So, visit their website for more information if you are ready to expand your organic/natural sustainable knowledge.
[Ed. Note]: At G2N we have shared with our readers’ ways to live more sustainable. Therefore, when we come across an organization like Urban Farming Guys, which promotes this lifestyle, we want to encourage you to follow them and their progress. There are ways you too can help change lives and impact the future.
