Could Owning Too Much Stuff be Causing Calamity in Your Life?
Growing up in Richmond, CA was an experience I wouldn’t change for anything. I didn’t have a lot but what I did get, I kept in great condition and I usually for kept it for years. Now I don’t want to hold on to all those things. So I came to the conclusion that life isn’t about possessions.
I needed a major change. I had too much stuff. And I had to de-clutter my life!
When my Ma passed away I kept some of her things. Blankets, hair curlers (they still had the smell of her hair), driver’s license and several other things big and small. That and all the other things that had been stored away since I was a teen really added up. I needed to make better decisions about the types of things I really needed in my life.
All this “stuff” I had to keep up with. I had to make sure it was packed away well and go thru it every now and again to find something I really needed. All the possessions became less reminiscent of days’ past and more of a burden. Baggage.
Spring (Life) cleaning
The process was a slow one and took a few years for me to adjust to. First, I let go of her blankets. We had more than enough to use and these extras were taking up so much room, they had to go. I’m sure someone had better use for them than I did storing them in the closet.
Then I started eyeballing my teen choices of memorabilia in storage. Amazing the things you get into as a youth! I was a total “trekkie”. I loved comic books and collecting toys. And I had my fair share of “teeny bopper” magazines I used to read still left over. Yeah, I know… Who holds on to that type of stuff?!?! I did.
Clarity in thought and room to move around in our home were two things I had to have. Time for some spring cleaning.
