I have been wanting to make lip balm for sometime. I procrastinated on this project, assuming that it would be a big mess and not worth my time. I am here to tell you that this was so easy and fun to make. I will be making more in the near future with different flavors and purposes. My first batch included an essential/infused oil that will help with cold sores. I have friends and family that occasionally have cold sores, so I thought I would make a lip balm that smells yummy and helps clear up the cold sores.
The essential/infused oil included in this recipe is lemon balm. Lemon balm helps with cold sores, sores and bug bites. By adding coconut oil to this lip balm you have the benefits of the lauric acid found in coconut oil, lauric acid can fight against bacteria, fungi and viruses. Coconut oil has so many other health benefits as well.
I purchased several items to make this project go easier and I highly recommend them. I purchased the tubes in bulk, but you can use containers you might have at home. Baby food jars, empty lipstick tubes or old salve containers you have saved will work wonderfully. If you do purchase the tubes, the lip tube fill tray makes this so much easier. You can use any dropper to fill the tubes, but I purchased disposable pipettes. I cleaned the one I used and will be reusing it. Another thing to help with cleanup is using a chopstick for stirring, it makes for easy clean up. I also purchased flavoring for my lip balm, but this is completely optional.
As you can see I put a lot of thought in to which essential oils to incorporate into this lip balm recipe. I hope you feel inspired to try out this recipe and let me know your thoughts.
